A guided tour through the Bosshardt House

Book a free tour through the Major Bosshardt house, and you will definitely leave the building inspired. Our enthusiastic tour guides will tell you everything there is to know about the major, about the building and about goodwill work in the twenty-first century.

The Major Bosshardt house, the oldest brick building in Amsterdam, holds so much history that our tour guides could keep telling its stories for hours and hours. We make sure, however, that our tours only last for an hour. In sixty minutes, you will go through the building top to bottom and hear a different inspiring story in every room.

Past and present

Taking a tour through the Major Bosshardt house is like taking a tour through time itself. The house was built in 1605, which is clearly visible on the outside: it is a stately monumental building. Inside, however, you can see exactly what the interior looked like when Major Bosshardt lived there from the 1950s to the ‘70s. You will see where the major slept, where she took her meals, and where she took care of ex-prostitutes (and anyone who needed help). From the twentieth century, you will be taken back into the present and hear about the work that the Salvation Army does in society today. By looking at some of our exhibitions, you will also learn what you can do to make the world a better, more beautiful place.

3 reasons to book a guided tour:
