First Bosshardt Cookies Distributed in Major Bosshardt House

The Bosshardt cookies were launched on Valentine’s Day 2024

AMSTERDAM – Today, on the day we celebrate love, the very first box of Bosshardt cookies was distributed to Salvation Soldiers Koos and Henny Tinga by Ineke Kuiper from the Eberhardjes Foundation. Koos and Henny used to work with the major and knew her very well. The Eberhardjes Foundation in Amsterdam, known for their beloved Eberhardjes cookies, developed this new cookie in collaboration with the Salvation Army. The heart-shaped cookie is second in a line of cookies from Amsterdam. The first, the Eberhardje, was named after late mayor Eberhard van der Laan.

Henny Tinga immediately started handing out the new cookies to a group of visiting students, explaining: “This cookie perfectly represents the Major and us: it is not too big, it has authentic flavor and it is crunchy. With Major Bosshardt, it was always: what you see is what you get. That was her secret, that was her ‘crunchiness’.  Her words matched her actions. She connected people and worlds in every aspect of her life, which is how she added flavor to everything she did in her life. Together we can add flavor, you young people too!”

Bosshardt’s Unique Flavor

The Bosshardtje’s unique flavor was inspired by the tea and cinnamon biscuits the major used to serve her guests: the homeless, addicts, and prostitutes from the Wallen in Amsterdam she took care of. Major Bosshardt put love and faith into action, and offered help and hope to the most vulnerable.

Cookies for Connection

The Bosshardtje is a heart-shaped, cinnamon flavored cookie, sprinkled with a layer of sugar for ‘feminine sparkle’. It is the second cookie in a line of cookies from Amsterdam and represents ‘taking good care of the city and of each other’. This new cookie reflects the shared values of connectivity in and among  both neighborhoods that the organizations are located in, and their residents. Just like the profits from the Eberhardjes contribute to connectivity projects in Amsterdam, the net profits from the Bosshardtjes will be donated to projects by the Salvation Army in Amsterdam.
